Post-16 Pathways
Sandcastles Play Therapy
Ten or twelve fully-funded therapy sessions per pupil, led by a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Sessions will include a range of therapeutic activity (including use of sand, puppets, music, movement, role-play, clay, arts and crafts and toys) to build rapport and communication with the pupil with the aim of forming a safe and warm therapeutic relationship to explore their emotional world (to help identify, work through and resolve emotional conflicts).
This is a highly therapeutic intervention and so will be suitable for a very limited number of highly vulnerable pupils. These pupils may or may not have SEND but will have been touched by adverse childhood experiences, including:
- domestic violence
- parental abandonment through separation or divorce
- a parent with a mental health condition
- being the victim of abuse (physical, sexual and/or emotional)
- being the victim of neglect (physical and emotional)
- a member of the household being in prison
- growing up in a household where adults are experiencing alcohol and drug use problems
If the pupil has experienced/is experiencing any of the preceding stressful events, then they will be considered for a therapeutic intervention and you should complete a referral.
Please complete the attached Sandcastles referral form and Parental consent. Return both completed forms by password.
